The District of Columbia is an issuing member of the Physical Therapy Compact. PTs and PTAs holding an active compact privilege from another participating state can practice in the District under that privilege without applying for a separate DC license. The Occupational Therapy Compact and the ASLP-IC speech-language pathology compact are not issuing in the District, so OTs, COTAs and SLPs need full District of Columbia licensure. Compact status as of October 6, 2026, from each compact’s own list — confirm with the DC Board of Physical Therapy before relying on a privilege.
District of Columbia currently has 5 open ProTherapy postings, advertised at a median of $1,260 per week (gross, before tax). The District is a single-city travel market — Washington itself — so the list above is short and turns over quickly. Cost of living is high and housing is the largest line item in a DC package, which makes the stipend the number worth negotiating. Many therapists on a District contract live across the line in Maryland or Virginia; both have their own current openings — see Maryland and Virginia.
