Travel Therapy Pay Transparency Board

Advertised weekly pay on the open travel therapy contracts in ProTherapy Staffing's feed, by discipline and by state. A median is shown only where enough contracts back it.

The board: open contracts by discipline

Every figure on this board comes from one place: the open travel therapy contracts in ProTherapy Staffing's job feed, 943 contracts in all, pay data as of 2026-10-05. Each figure is the advertised weekly gross for the contract: taxable wages plus stipends, before tax. Nothing on the board is a survey, a submission or an estimate.

DisciplineOpen contracts10th percentileMedian90th percentile
PT348$2,130$2,340$2,782
OT140$2,130$2,280$2,630
SLP95$2,130$2,280$2,770
PTA233$1,260$1,540$1,820
COTA127$1,260$1,540$1,710

A median is shown only where at least 5 contracts back it; a percentile only where enough contracts sit outside it on both sides. A dash means the feed is too thin to say.

How the disciplines compare

PT and OT pay are within 5% of each other

The PT median is $2,340 and the OT median is $2,280, a $60 gap. That is under the 5% line this board uses before it calls two disciplines different, so it does not.

PTA and COTA pay are within 5% of each other

The PTA median is $1,540 and the COTA median is $1,540, a $0 gap. That is under the 5% line this board uses before it calls two disciplines different, so it does not.

The wider gap is between therapists and assistants: the PT median sits $800 a week above the PTA median, about 34% of the PT figure.

By state

A state gets a median for a discipline only when at least 5 of that discipline's contracts are open there. For each discipline: how many states have any open contract, how many clear that bar, and the spread between the state medians that do. The full state-by-state table is on the salary map.

DisciplineStates with open contractsStates with a medianState medians run
PT4325$2,130 (4 states) to $2,860 (New Hampshire)
OT349$2,130 (Maryland, New Jersey) to $2,630 (California)
SLP338$2,130 (Florida, Virginia) to $2,770 (California)
PTA4015$1,260 (New Jersey) to $1,820 (New Hampshire)
COTA2810$1,260 (Maryland, New Jersey) to $1,710 (California)

A state median is the median of that state's open contracts in that discipline, every setting together. Settings are compared on the settings page.

How to read the board

  • Advertised weekly gross. The figure a contract is posted at: taxable wages plus stipends, before tax. The feed does not split a package into its taxable rate and stipends, and it carries no hours, so this board does not either.
  • Contracts, not openings. A contract with several open slots counts once.
  • Medians, not averages. Half the contracts in a group are posted above the median and half below, so one unusually high or low contract cannot move it far.
  • No submissions. Pay shared through the form below is not added to the board.

Related: open contracts by specialty, pay by setting, and the Travel Therapy Pay Index, which tracks these medians month by month.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the pay on this board come from?

From the open travel therapy contracts in ProTherapy Staffing's job feed: each figure is a median of the weekly pay those contracts are advertised at. Nothing is taken from surveys or submissions.

Is this take-home pay?

No. It is weekly gross, taxable wages plus stipends, before any tax. What you keep depends on your tax home, your state and your own situation.

Why do some cells show a dash?

A median is published only where at least 5 contracts back it. Below that, one contract can swing the figure, so the board shows a dash instead.

Why is there no taxable rate or stipend split?

The feed records each contract's total weekly pay, not how an agency splits it into a taxable rate and stipends. Ask for that breakdown in writing for any contract you are offered.
